I am so sorry for the loss Tiki.......as for costs of removal of tumors.....it depends on your vet. I have a vet who is wonderful with small exotics and he is usually really cool about prices for surgeries they have (mostly my Sugar Gliders).

I know that euthanasia is a difficult choice for some, but can truly be the most Humane and caring thing we can do for a beloved pet who is suffering.

Poor girl

It has been a while since I had rats, but I remember the surgery was a little over $100.

I use melatonin for my dogs and other critters when I see the appearence of lumps... I have given it to my dane for a bump on her leg- these are known to be cancer or tumors - it was given to my lab, I have used it on a few of my favorite rats too, in all I have seen great response- in the dane you cant even see it anymore.

depends on the vet--the dr i work for works with the central texas rat people--he usually charges around 150-250 depending on the surgery

It is really sad that you have to put her down, my thoughts are with you guys. And yes 3 minutes seems very long, but it is a very humane death and they really don't suffer. HUGS!

i wanted to let you know that we'll also euthanize rats and herps at my clinic, usually for no charge. we sedate them with anesthetic gas and give a lethal dose of phenobarbitol (stanard euthanasia drug). it's faster than the dry ice but less convenient. call me at 459-7676 if you need to.

sorry to hear it. I have had to put one down before and I used this method. It seemed to work very quick.
