The pleco seems to be doing a good job, and the turtles don't bother him at all. I will look into the ghost shrimp also.

they're good for the turtles too
Why do you say that what are the benefits to the turtles?
Thanks

I used to manage fish stores... all of this is good advice but there's no way to avoid cleaning altogether just with scavengers. They poop, too, and you're still going to have to work at keeping the tank clean with good old manual labor.

I do keep it clean with filters and one of those water vacuum things. I just think if I can use fish to supplement the cleaning it's a no brainer.

Right on. The vacuum thing is good to get most of it and the filter does the rest. You might need a number of algae eaters to keep the algae down, and a big pleco or two are good for food scraps that fall to the bottom. Changing part of the water regularly is a good habit too.
